OcNOS 6.6 For Service Providers Live For General Availability

Preferred Disaggregated NOS for Access Routers, Cell Site Routers and Aggregation Routers

IP Infusion’s OcNOS-SP 6.6.0 for Service Providers is now generally available for download.
OcNOS-SP delivers the latest features, services and transports to Service Providers for Access, CSR and Aggregation use cases.

OcNOS-SP was an early adopter of the Segment Routing (SR) transport use case having delivered successfully to Telcos and ISPs. We continue to add to our SR capabilities with the introduction of SR Flexible Algorithm (SR Flex Algo) for Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS). SR Flex Algo has been identified as a top requirement for Tier-1 Service Providers who view it as the technological advancement to manage and deploy their SR based networks.

Flex Algo helps with network slicing whereby multiple virtual networks can be created on a single physical network topology. Also, the network paths are optimized by associating Metric-Type and Constraints to Flex Algo instead of just using the IGP Metrics.

Why is SR Flex Algo a requirement for Service Providers?

  • Traffic Flow Optimization
  • Network Scalability and Efficiency
  • Network Reliability: dynamically adapt to changes and failures
  • Reduced Operational Cost: minimizing the need for additional hardware and manual intervention
  • Reduced Complexity: streamlining the routing processes and simplifying network architecture

Additionally, OcNOS-SP 6.6.0 delivers the ability to do traffic steering over Flex Algo by advertising color via BGP i.e., EVPN Traffic Steering over Flex Algo.

OcNOS-SP 6.6.0 delivers the next phase in our support for Streaming Telemetry. We have been building our streaming telemetry capabilities over the last 18 months and this is the Phase 3 roll out of the gNMI based support for network monitoring.

What is Streaming Telemetry?

  • Transmitting measurements from various network devices to a collector for storage and further processing
  • gNMI (gRPC Network Management Interface) built on Google’s widely deployed gRPC protocol is used for streaming telemetry
  • Network management evolution from SNMP to Streaming Telemetry

Features in OcNOS-SP 6.6.0 Streaming Telemetry Phase 3

  • Support of Wild-Card in Xpaths
  • Streaming via in-band management
  • gNMI TLS Support

To meet the evolving needs of Access and Aggregation networks OcNOS-SP 6.6.0 provides support for Service Activation Testing (SAT) as defined in ITU-T Y.1564 on Broadcom’s Qumran-2 based platforms. This provides the test methodology for installing, onboarding and troubleshooting ethernet based services. This ensures for faster network deployment and makes service and network debugging simpler.

Another capability being made available for Service Providers is the support for Bridge Virtual Interface (BVI) on Broadcom’s Qumran-2 based platforms. This allows for the OcNOS device to act as a gateway between a Layer 2 bridged network and a Layer 3 routed network.

On the platform side, OcNOS-SP 6.6.0 sees the introduction of Edgecore’s Fanless Qumran-UX based device – Edgecore AS5915-16X.

OcNOS-SP continues to deliver the latest features in a simple, easy-to-use perpetual licensing scheme which provides cost-effective roll-out for Access, CSR and Aggregation networks. The OcNOS-SP Software SKUs available to Service Providers are as follows:
