OcNOS CP: Introducing New Market Features From The Market Leader In Networking Software

OcNOS CP, formerly known as ZebOS, is responsible for creating the networking software market as we know it today

IP Infusion has updated its OcNOS CP (Control Plane) product, a networking software source code offering. Previously known as ZebOS, OcNOS CP helps networking companies create better products, faster. OcNOS CP is a complete plug-and-play development environment for networking products, and is widely used throughout the industry today. OcNOS CP is based on the award-winning OcNOS: Open Compute Network Operating System, the industry standard in hardware independent network operating systems, with an existing globally deployed ecosystem.

Over the past 25 years many companies and products have come and gone in the networking market, but OcNOS CP’s architecture, features and support have stood the test of time across various industries in mission-critical applications of all sizes.

OcNOS CP: What Makes It Tick?

OcNOS CP integrates a powerful networking protocol stack with management, interprocess communication, interface management, OAM, and HAL—providing your OEM engineering team with a robust framework to accelerate time-to-market by 12-18 months.

OcNOS CP’s networking stack boasts 600+ features, including industry-standard protocols and essential switching capabilities for seamless deployment. Rigorously tested across diverse customer products and a range of OcNOS products, it is built to deliver carrier-grade reliability.

Built on a robust architecture, our product implements protocol modules as independent daemons, maximizing the performance of multicore CPUs. This modular approach allows customers to start with an essential small set of protocols and seamlessly add more as their needs grow.

Introducing New OcNOS CP Software Bundles

To commemorate our Silver Jubilee year, IP Infusion is pleased to announce the release of the following two OcNOS CP software bundles. They have been specially curated to meet market demands.

  1. OcNOS-CP-SR-MPLS Bundle
  2. OcNOS-CP-EVPN-VxLAN Bundle

The growing adoption of EVPN in the networking world is ushering in a new era due to its unified control plane across Service Provider (SP) and Data Center (DC) environments. By integrating multiple services and overcoming legacy protocol limitations, EVPN has gained popularity. It offers scalability, flexibility, redundancy, and support for new types of services.

As per the Global Market Insights report, the global VPN market was valued at approximately USD 45 billion in 2022, and is projected to grow at a compounding annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 20% from 2023 to 2032.  The two new bundles help in addressing this demand.

These two new bundles deliver EVPN services with distinct transport options tailored for different environments.

OcNOS-CP-SR-MPLS Bundle

OcNOS CP’s service-driven, streamlined SR-MPLS software bundle offers an upgrade to traditional MPLS, enhancing its capabilities. It supports both traditional VPN and EVPN services while delivering the following Segment Routing (SR) transport layer advantages:

  • Simplified control plane: Avoids LDP/RSVP-TE usage
  • Network path programming: Source routing helps to program the path and hence the network
  • Reduced labels usage in the network: node-label and adjacency-label usage at source reduces per tunnel label maintenance at each node of the path
  • Supports both distributed and centralized control

The OcNOS CP SR-MPLS software bundle includes:

L2 Protocols   VLAN, xSTP, LACP, LLDP and PB
L3 Protocols   OSPF, ISIS and BGP
Switching features   MCLAG, BFD, PBR, CFM, EFM etc
Transports   MPLS and SR-MPLS (with MPLS-OAM, ECMP and FRR capabilities)
Services   VPWS, VPLS, L3VPN, EVPN (ELINE, ELAN, E-Tree and IRB with multihoming support)
Management   Data model driven transaction based CLI / NetConf / SNMP

OcNOS-CP-EVPN-VxLAN Bundle

The OcNOS CP EVPN-VxLAN software bundle offers an upgrade from traditional L2 services to EVPN-VxLAN Overlay services for Data Center and Campus environments.

Key advantages include:

  • Scalability: From traditional 4K VLANs to 16 Million VNIDs using VxLAN
  • Simplified service provisioning and maintenance: Efficient service configurations and MAC learning at end points (or leaf nodes) only
  • Auto detection of service endpoints: Service endpoints are discovered with EVPN control plane
  • Simplify networks: Move away from complex and problematic L2 networks to easily scalable L3 Clos networks

The OcNOS CP EVPN-VxLAN software bundle includes:

L2 Protocols   VLAN, xSTP, LACP, LLDP and PB
L3 Protocols   BGP (With EVPN address-family)
  Switching features   BFD etc
  Transports   VxLAN
Services   EVPN (ELINE, ELAN, E-Tree and IRB with multihoming support)
Management   Data model driven transaction based CLI / NetConf / SNMP

Other features such as ISIS, OSPF, McLAG, VRRP, PBR, CFM and DCB can be added as needed.

OcNOS CP offers an extensive set of deployment hardened features with a modular architecture designed to start with your requirements and grow as needed.  It also provides a forward-looking perspective on upcoming features with a well-defined roadmap.
